How To Interpret This Indicator

Higher values indicate higher reported Gross National Income per capita, expressed as an index.

Income per capita is an average. It does not show how income is distributed within a country.

Reading the Income Index Data

This page lists Income Index for 18 countries in the CivlensAI dataset, with reference years 2022. The figures span from 0.640 in India to 0.930 in Norway — a difference of roughly 1.5× between the highest and lowest reported values. The median country in this dataset sits at 0.855, which is a more representative middle point than the average because a handful of extreme values do not pull it in either direction.

When reading this table, the spread matters as much as the ordering. Countries clustered near the median differ only marginally on income development, while the gap between the top and bottom of the table describes the full range this indicator covers. A single number for a whole country is also a national average: it can conceal large differences between regions, age groups, or income levels within the same country, and it is reported in score (0-1).

These values are recorded as published by the data source shown above and are not adjusted by CivlensAI. Reference years differ across countries where a source has not published data for the same year, so comparisons should treat figures as the latest available rather than strictly simultaneous. For methodology details and known limitations, see the source page and the interpretation notes on this page.

Limitations

  • Income Index measures only one dimension. A single indicator does not describe a country comprehensively.
  • Different reporting years. Indicators shown together may refer to different years because publishers release data on different schedules.
  • Methodology differences. Each organization defines and measures its indicators using its own methodology; figures with similar names from different sources may not be directly comparable.
  • Incomplete country coverage. Not every country has a value for every indicator in the source data.

For the original figures, methodology notes, and revisions, consult the publisher linked from this page. Always verify with the official source for the most current data.
